Solved cannot access memory stick...?

November 4, 2011 at 01:29:07
Specs: Windows 7
Was playing music on memory stick on friends laptop. then, suddenly, window closed. We tried to go into memory stick again, but it doesn't even show....it's not being detected. Now I'm trying to access memory stick on my own PC, but it's not even detected....
What happened, and how do I solve my problem?

The memory stick has failed I'm afraid - not an uncommon problem, I use them for my work on a daily basis and regularly have one fail every 6 months or so. You can try it in another couple of machines as they often have slightly different characteristics so you may get it kicked back to life temporarily, but it won't be reliable again.

If it's only music then your cheapest option is to just bin it and buy a new memory stick. There are companies that specialise in data recovery, even from memory sticks, but it's not cheap & not always successful.

Thank you for the swift response. What a pity, having to bin it... Just bought it about 3 months ago.... there isn't anything else I could to to try and 'resuscitate' it?lol

Unfortunately if it's dead in two different machines then there is v. little hope, & the fact it seemed to die as you were using it is also not good. Some brands do have a guarantee on them, which may be worth looking at, but they often have so many get-out clauses that you may get nowhere.
