Is the computer currently connected to the net through a hard-wired connection? If so, and you remove that cable, then you will indeed temporarily lose connectivity while you initiate the connection to the wireless router.

Just a note of caution, if this computer is a game server, I would highly recommend you don't use it for anything other than that...use another computer to surf the net, use email, banking, etc.

my son lives in a different location and has my computer (I have broadband connection for internet)set as a server for he and his friends to play an interactive game. I am in process of adding a wireless router to my home so I can use my laptop, nook, etc ...My son is almost sure that if I have the wireless router connected in my home it will cause a problem with my desktop being the "server" for their game. I am not very "smart" about these technical issues. Any help would certainly be appreciated in assisting in this decision. Regards
