can I install windows 7 on a gateway mx6440 A

Specs: Windows XP serv pack3, 1.79amd64/1ram
I have a gateway mx6440 single core amd turion 64 single core, 1 ram.
I am running xp service pack 3. A few days ago a friend sent me an email with a virus which i did not open but it scared me enough to consider upgrading, especially since i now have 3 hidden objects my avira virus scanner found, 2 of them new. Though the scanner said no viruses, the 2 new hidden objects HKEY_Local_MACHINE\system\controlSet001\Services\NtmsSvc\Config\Standalone\drivelist) make me concerned enough to upgade. Will this laptop take the 7 ultimate?
Thanks, Chris

XP is faster. You secure your system by using what is termed best practices. Using a limited user account. Installing all service packs, Using at the least microsoft's security essentials or other good protection suite.

I'd reload the original xp and put it back up to best practice state and make an image.

If you want to know if W7 will work then see the MS site. It has an app to run to tell you if it will be supported.

I wouldn't pay for ultimate. I'd buy a new laptop that has W7 installed.
