I have a multitude of Microsoft installations on my system as can be seen in this clip:

surely they can't all be needed or are they applicable to various parts of the operating system?

Hi Ewen - that's a name I remember.

The C++ ones are small. It is possible that specific programs require older versions.
I tend to agree with this:

I think a similar argument applies to VC80 & VC90. They relate to C++ and dll's. It is possible they are for games but they could be for about anything. They are usually only something like 2MB each.

I assume you are not stuck for space but just trying to tidy up.

You may care to wait to see if a programmer joins us, or if you get no other response I can ask that this post be shifted to the Programming forum.

Always pop back and let us know the outcome - thanks

Hello Derek... space is not a problem but I happened to be going through "Programs " in the Control Panel and the number of items caught my eye and I got to wondering whether they were all necessary.

They are all different. I would leave them be.
