If you're asking about viewing them on a stand-alone DVD player, your player would have to support MP4s. if not, you will have to convert to DVD-Video format. You can watch them on your computer using VLC Player.

Hello and thank you. My dvd player is not so new so I'm assuming it wouldn't know mp4 ... what format should I convert the files to, and what is the best free program to do this, in your opinion?

I haven't had to do it in quite a while because my HDTV & blu-ray player both play back MP4s directly from USB drives. Be aware that the conversion to DVD format takes quite some time, 1-2 hours.

The reason for the conversion is that a DVD has a completely different file and folder structure, so after conversion the files will not contain mp4's. In fact they are .vob but it's a fair bit more complicated than that. If you "browse" some commercial DVD on your computer (rather than running it) you will see what I mean.

If you come unstuck there are several other free programs around that do this but the trick is to find one that doesn't contain malware or other unwanted goodies. You always go for a custom install if available or uncheck all the unwanted stuff, although in some cases even that doesn't stop them.

Always pop back and let us know the outcome - thanks
