C based program works in window xp, but not 7

November 5, 2011 at 13:27:31
Specs: Windows xp, 2.0/ 2 gigs of ramof ram
The program uses very little resources in XP, but in 7 the process goes up to 1 Gig of memory in the task manager, but the program never finishes open.

To be a little more precise the logo appears on screen, and the process keeps taking up space until the PC freezes. I am very much an amateur, and I did not write the program. I am not expecting an exact answer, but a possible answers as to why a program wont work for both of them.

I tried running the program as the admin, and in several compatibility modes.

Try to run it in safe mode. What does the program do? Have you looked at the event viewer for errors? What compiler was used to compile the program? Do you have the source code?

Run it in a virtual machine. Some memory leak or dll issue or just not compiled to run in the w7 kernel.

Sorry it took me a while to reply. I lost internet. I did not write the program. I found it online. I used it on XP, but my desktop is down so I downloaded it again for my laptop. At about the same time I decided to try to teach myself computer programming. I was hoping I could use it as a learning experience and get to use a program I wanted.
I don't know how it was compiled. The only reason i know it was written in C is because I tried to open a data file and MS visual studio basically informed me it was written in C.
Thanks for the advice everyone. I might have to come back to it after I get more knowledge. I know what a kernel is but I have no idea of how to make a program work under a different kernel.
