breaking passwords on a tower computer

Specs: Windows XP
I know that on a tower computer you can take the panel off the computer and take the little round battery out and pop it back in that resets the the computer and password should be gone...but for laptops I'm not sure how to do this my mom is older and has me working on her forgotten password to her laptop and I'm lost! And not everyone writes it down, usually they know it cause they use the same password for most everything.

No, that may not work. You don't pull battery anymore. Jumper is normal way now.

Depends on the laptop. Some would need NSA to crack them.

Are you sure it is the bios password and not Windows password?

See ultimate boot cd.

Most questions like this are from crooks that are stupid enough to try to break into stolen computers.

On the start-up screen press Ctrl+Alt+Delete two times, then for the username enter "Administrator" as account name, then login. By default, the account "Administrator" has no password, and you can then change your main account's password through this account.

'laptops I'm not sure how to do this my mom is older and has me working on her forgotten password to her laptop and I'm lost!'

This is an easy one. Just call the manufacturer of the laptop tech support and give them the serial number of the laptop, it will only take them a matter of hours to fix that for you

Some HELP in posting on Computing.net plus free progs and instructions Cheers

it would depend on what password you are talking about. We need to know that.

The laptop's bios password or windows password.

By the way, if you boot to safe mode with F8 and windows has a password, admin also has a password.
