Bought an Acer AspireOne & it's is password locked

September 14, 2014 at 18:46:47
Specs: Windows 7
Bought on eBay.
Not the hard drive - the software I think (I'm only an elderly amateur) it's prompting me for the password of the previous owner and another user.

A few things to try:

1) Have you tried logging on both user accounts? Maybe one isn't password protected.

2) Before windows starts loading start tapping F8. A boot menu should come up. Choose 'safe mode' and see if one of the users names presented is ADMINISTRATOR. If so try logging on to it. If ADMINISTRATOR is enabled it's often not password protected and once it boots up you can delete the passwords on the other accounts.

3) Check the laptop manual and see if the laptop has a restore partition. If so you can boot to it and restore it to the way it was when it was originally sold.

4) If the ebay seller doesn't respond with the password open a case against him. In all liklihood you'll get your money back.

I suggest you first check to see if there is a factory restore partition on the hard drive. If there is then I suggest you perform a factory restore. For all you know, there could be some malicious software installed. Always better to start fresh with a used computer.
