Bootmgr missing error installing Windows 7

August 15, 2010 at 15:16:24
Specs: None, between vista and 7, Dual 2.00, 4 gb
I was attempting a clean install of window 7 pro on my laptop. I formatted my hd and continued with install, but it eventually froze and I had to restart. When it came alive again, I tried to boot from my setup cd, but it wouldn't start the install and only gave me the "bootmgr is missing" error. I've tried several times, even a different disk, and it still won't see the windows setup. What do I do?

You might try a Windows 7 startup repair:

did you run a compatability test for win 7 before attempting the install?
did you only format the c: partition, or did you format the whole drive?
you can reinstall vista from the hidden drive of your machine if you didnt delete it, that is usually done by pressing a certain f key during boot, depends on what make your laptop is.
you can check at this link or in your manual.

or
you can try downloading a win 7 repair dvd and running a repair of the installation.

I did run the comparability test. Everything checked out fine. I only formatted the main partition. Problem is, it won't even boot the cd anymore. I can't get to the installation.

Did you check the BIOS boot settings and set CD/DVD to the first boot device?

sounds like you require a driver for the dvd player,
you should run the factory restore,
once your old OS is back,
create a new partition and install win 7,
when everything is working and your happy with win 7 you can delete the vista installation.
