Boot Windows 7 Upgrade from DOS?

April 19, 2011 at 08:56:04
Specs: Windows Vista
A new Windows 7 upgrade disc will not boot on a new computer. Does the old OS have to be installed for the DVD to boot? The new computer is a barebones with nothing but a DVD, Video card and hard drive.

You just need to set up the boot order in your BIOS to boot from your DVD drive first with your hard drive second. Save this and reboot with the install DVD in the drive (you may need to 'hit any key to boot from DVD/CD drive' as the screen displays).

You have to be a little bit crazy to keep you from going insane.

There is no DOS in XP onwards, only a Windows Dos Emulator (Command Prompt).
This is no use for anything remotely like this. See post #1 above.

Please come back and let us know the outcome.
