Boot to external DVD drive to install Win7

Specs: Windows XP
I intend to install Windows 7 on a desktop thro external DVD Drive connected thro USB port.I am not able to boot thro this external drive as there is no BIOS Support option for selecting Boot thro USB . How to proceed ?

watch the bios messages as it boots it should give the option to hit an F key to choose boot, although if there is no option in the bios to set boot order then your machine may just be too old.
a bios update may help..

i hate computers!
but cant help myself....

USB drive is normally not shown in the BIOS.
There is (if it is) at maximum an option to use USB HDD, USB Floppy a.s.o.
But the USB hard drive is never shown.
The USB hard drive is detected during BIOS initialization and then shown in the boot menu, when pressing F11 or whichever key is used to choose a boot device.

If no bios support try plop or other boot floppy that installs support.

Why did it take me over a year to phone in a problem to ATT?
