Blue stop screen unexpected error

September 12, 2012 at 13:49:56
Specs: win7 ultimate, 2.8amdx4/12g ram
I have reinstalled win7ultimate over win7home prem. I selected clean install and it put the old system into the windows.old folder. I then put office2010 onto it. With or without office installed I occasionally getting what I call the half blue screen of death. I'm getting the windows has stopped to an unexpected error screen. Any ideas as to how to handle this. Thanks

You can try an Office repair.

Also, you can post your dump file.

The drive is all mixed up, boot from the XP CD.
Press any key when you see the message.
Proceed with the install & Delete ALL Partitions.
Then Format to NTFS.

D to Delete the selected partition ( XP )

I can't boot to xp cd. It loads up and right before it starts the install it brings up the stop screen. Same thing with the gateway restore cd. It starts to read it and then instead of bringing up the utilities it brings up the stop screen. I tested the drive with seagate sea tools and it passed. I don't think it has a virus on it. So I'm at a loss

Try the W7 CD & see if that will boot.

You have been into the bios & set it to boot from the CD first?
Then put your XP or W7 CD in & continue the boot.

There's no os on the drive so it's booting from the cd and going into the stop screen after loading xp instead of coming up.

Yeah it's booting from the cd because in the beginning it ask me to press any key to boot from cd. Then it loads files and right before it starts it comes back with the stop screen

"Yeah it's booting from the cd because in the beginning it ask me to press any key to boot from cd"
Ok, that's what I wanted to know, you are looking at the comp, I cannot assume anything.

"XP or W7 CD"
Did you try both CD's?

i understand,,yes i can boot to the win7 cd but not xp or the restore cd with the utilities on it, it sounds like something simple has or is not happening because i can boot up to the xp cd in a laptop and i can try to boot up to the gateway cd but it will go to a cmd prompt and allow me to choose fdisk or fomat etc. but right now with this situation ive never had it give me the stop screen like this,,,anybody got any ideas or seen this before

Not seen this before, but I would use the W7 CD & Delete ALL the partitions & format to NTFS. Continue to install W7, when finished, if you want to install XP, have another try.

W7 - Click on > Drive options (advanced) Then highlight each partition & hit > Delete.

Ok, go into the bios, play around with IDE compatibility mode & AHCI mode or any other setting in that section of your bios.

"that worked, i can boot to the xp disk"
Ok, thought it must be a bios setting.

On the first bios/cmos page that opens, you should see what key to press for > Setup defaults.

Do so.
