black screen with blinking cursor win 7

Microsoft Windows 7 ultimate 32-bit
June 21, 2011 at 14:47:52
Specs: Windows 7 ultimate, Intel dual-core
When I boot up, I just get a black screen with blinking cursor at top left. Worked fine until that. Please help. Just before that happened, there was an automatic win 7 service update ( build7601).

Can't get anything except black screen and flashing cursor.
If I press F8, all I get are the boot options (Hard-drive, Cd etc.).
Tried win 7 disc, but, nothing.

boot with your windows 7 DVD and then choose "repair your computer".
Select startup repairs. it should fix the problem. On next reboot if still not working then boot again in windows 7 DVD choose command prompt and then reapir the MBR

Psyshadow, this line:
"Tryck ned valfri tangent om du starta med CD- eller DVD-skivan"
is Swedish and means:
"Press any key when you boot with the CD or DVD-ROM"

Subhash, (boot with your windows 7 DVD and then choose "repair your computer")

I can't click on anything as there is nothing to be seen.

Peter, ("Tryck ned valfri tangent om du starta med CD- eller DVD-skivan"
is Swedish and means:
"Press any key when you boot with the CD or DVD-ROM")

Nothing at all happens when I press a key. The message just sits there with a blinking cursor at the end of it.

Thanks guy's for any further help you can give me, because I can't afford to lose the stuff that is in it.

first of all, "Press any key when you boot with the CD or DVD-ROM") until you got further to this, nothing can be done..

lets see what others say..

At last if you dont see an option then plug the HDD to any other computer and copy off the data you want to backup

Hi Sabash,

Thank you for your help. I've found that I can now replace win7 with the disk, but I don't want to do that as I've got too much on the hard drive that I need to keep, so I can't format it.

A few minutes ago I purchased a boot recovery disk on ebay. They've sold a hell of a lot of them and their feedback is good. Hopefully, this will solve the problem.

Thanks again, I'll keep you posted.

BOBBY.

Forgot to say, I can't switch the hard drive to my other computer as it doesn't take SATA.

you could insert the win 7 dvd, follow as for a install but choose upgrade, that will not change your files and work just as an update.

i hate computers!
but cant help myself....
