black and blue screens

Fic vi13 kit built / HOME BUILT

Specs: Win8, 3.0 ghz/6 Gigs RAM
black and blue screens. My daughter's computer (home built by her ex-husband) boots to password and allows her to sign onto Win7 then goes to a black screen saying there is a problem and then goes to the blue screen. Sometimes it goes to the desktop before crashing. Black screen does not stay up long enough to read the message. AMD processor, Sata hardrive, four or five years old (or maybe a little older). Case fans running. Beeps a couple of seconds, single beep, stops, then again repeating.

Can anyone suggest what the problem is?

" Black screen does not stay up long enough to read the message'

Does it boot into Safe mode?

If so, do this.

Disable Automatically restart

My daughter reports she was able to get the computer into Safe Mode with internet support. However, it shortly went to black screen with the message "no signal." I am interpreting this as meaning that the video card has failed. Do you people concur?

" Do you people concur?"
Can still be other things.

Process of elimination.

Try/borrow another monitor.

If the beeps are a repeating pattern, they are trying to
tell you where the problem is: video, RAM, or whatever.
The user manual for the motherboard *should* explain
what the specific pattern of beeps means. If not, do a
search for the name of the motherboard manufacturer,
the model name, and either the word "beeps" or the
two-word expression "beep codes".

The beep code won't tell you much, but it may be enough.

My daughter didn't have access to another monitor but she did have access to my grandson's laptop. She hooked it up and it worked fine with the laptop.

She could not find the brand name on the motherboard and she has no manual or box for it. Her ex-husband didn't keep those things as he knew it all and they are not on such terms that she could call him and ask him.

Beep was one beep at a time, over and over again.

1. Computer is not working, how could she run this program? (SIW Portable).

2. Computer is Home Built by her ex-husband. There is no model number. She cannot call him up and ask about it.

"Fic vi13 kit built HOME BUILT" was MY old computer which was replaced last spring by a new HP P7-1436s. This site refuses to let me change that although it did change listing of my OS to WIN 8.

Daughter's computer was built by her ex-huband from pieces & parts, but then new. WIN 7. NOT FIC, not HP, etc.

"meaning that the video card has failed"
Remove, clean the contacts & refit, try a different slot as well.
