Autocad normally used to be installed on what was termed graphic workstations. They were and are still sold by many companies. The line between a personal computer and a business workstation is somewhat blurred now. A personal computer has the type of support for graphics now that only workstations in the past had.

See the autodesk site for the minimum needed for autocad. Then buy the best fully supported graphic's adapter rather than worrying about a motherboard. I'd select maybe an opteron or a core i7 processor but the graphic card would be the best upgrade for the dollar.

Windows 7 64bit, 4GB RAM minimum, 8GB RAM better, a serious graphics card will be the most important. A fast processor with quad cores and a large cache will help a lot and a quality board that supports your choices from a manufacturer you trust will round out your choices, but don't forget to make sure you have sufficient power for it all.

You have to be a little bit crazy to keep you from going insane.
