Specs: Windows 7 64-bit, Athlon II M320 2.1 GHz, 3.00 GB RAM
Compaq laptop CQ61. Battery icon does not show plug when AC adapter is plugged in. Charge light is on and battery charges. Since no AC detected, can't make a recovery disk.

Contact HP, especially if fairly new. You could still be having a problem with the AC cord itself. If you know someone who has a similar HP machine, try borrowing their cord for a quick test.

You have to be a little bit crazy to keep you from going insane.

I measured charger output: 19.5 VDC no load. Spec is 18.5 VDC connected. Can't measure while connected since it isn't accessible, but seems OK. I also contacted HP/Compaq support and they suggested other things (drivers etc.), none worked. The reason I wanted to fix this was to be able to make recovery disks. It won't do it if it thinks it's on batt power. So, I can just use F11 if I need to, - not sure it's the same but good enough Thanks for reply anyway.
