AVI files: audio works but no dialogue

March 26, 2010 at 18:30:32
Specs: Windows 7
When I play certain video files of movies I've ripped, on my main win7 install, they have no words. The music score in the background plays perfectly and the video is fine. I've tried multiple players(Winamp, VLC, WMP) and no difference. Yet when I move them onto a win7 virtual machine they play completely perfect. what gives? any ideas?

You need to check the audio settings for these file. In VLC, for example, go to the audio tab: track, channel & devices. Look at the settings there & play around with them. It makes very little sense why they'll work in the your VM & not within the production environment.

nvm i found the problem. it was my 5.1 speaker system lol. It has an option called matrix mode. it basically forces sounds through all speakers even if the channel is empty. works great on music and the like but the speakers that the dialogue was trying to play through was being overruled. thanks for the suggestions though.
