Solved Automatic prompting for ActiveX controls

June 29, 2015 at 16:09:02
Specs: Win 7
In Internet Options, Security tab, Internet zone, Custom level, one of the
settings is "Automatic prompting for ActiveX controls". What does it do?

Google finds lots of pages telling people how to turn it on, but nobody
explains what it does.

Like, is manual prompting enabled if automatic prompting is disabled?

✔ Best Answer
See here under the heading "Automatic Prompting for ActiveX Controls":

Effectively both Enable and Disable still give a type of prompt, so it can be a bit confusing.

Derek,

Your link was purple.

Which means I had already visited the page recently.

But not today. I didn't find it today. I read it a few weeks ago.
Then I forgot what "Automatic prompting for ActiveX controls"
referred to. I remembered the description of what it is, but
forgot its name, and didn't recognize it when it came up again
today. Usually with Microsoft names for things it works the
other way around: I think I know what a thing is from its name,
but I'm actually thinking of something else with an almost
identical name.

Apparently you don't clear cookies, temp internet files, history, etc? Why would you want the internet trash to build up? Consider re-configuring your internet options to cut back on the accumulation of trash. And if you don't have CCleaner-Slim, I suggest you install it & use it regularly.
