Audio Driver

August 8, 2010 at 16:41:18
Specs: Windows 7
I just had Windows 7 installed on my Dell Latitude D610. All my drivers are working perfectly fine, with the exception of my audio driver. I have tried every link to download realtek, and others that had worked for others with the same issue off of forums. I have had no success. I have a red x over my sound icon and when i hover my mouse over it is says "No Audio Output Device is Installed." I am not sure what else to try. I feel that i have tried it all. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Did you try the WinXP sound driver from the Dell homepage?
You have to run the install program as Administrator.
If this doesn't work, try the kompatiblity mode for the sound drivers installer program and run it again as Administrator.

i have tried to download them off the dell website. i have had no luck. i am the admin. for the laptop. dell doesn't currently support windows 7 for my laptop, the latest version of windows it is compatible with it windows XP, 2000. i have read on other forums that people with the same laptop have downloaded windows 7 and had similar issues with the sound, but have resolved the issue with certain drivers. i have followed links that others have posted that have worked for them, but when i try to install the sound driver it says something isn't installed and i need to restart my system and try again. i have done this multiple times with no luck :(

I also read in some forums, that they used the XP sound driver from the Dell homepage and installed it as described above and it worked.

i can't get it to work. i went to the device and drivers and went to audio and it says this:
The drivers for this device are not installed. (Code 28)

There is no driver selected for the device information set or element.

To find a driver for this device, click Update Driver.

but it won't let me click Update driver. i tried to install driver sigma tel c-major audio driver R99254, and it says "device object not present, restart the system and run setup again"

Unpack the contents of R99254 to a folder. Go to Device Manager and update the drivers of Sigma Tel C from there. When asked, show the path to the drivers folder which you have just created from R99254. Win 7 will find the .inf file in the folder/subfolders and update accordingly. Do not forget to check the 'Include subfolders' box.

i did all that, and when i got a message saying "Windows was unable to install your multimedia audio controller. Windows could not find driver software for your device."

when i went into device manager, it doesn't say sigma tel c, it only lists "multimedia audio controller" and it is listed under "other" with a yellow marker above it.
