ASUS Black screen of death

August 29, 2012 at 15:35:15
Specs: Linux i686
About a month Ago i got the black screen of death. When turning on my laptop, it starts up with the computer logo, then freezes at a black screen with a blinking underscore in the top left hand corner not processing anything. I can't even get into safe mode, and Alt-Ctrl-Delete just restarts it. The most i can do is enter boot mode by pressing F2 and enter ASUS express Gate just fine. Does anyone have solutions for this? It would be very much appreciated by me and my family.

did you by chance make up the restoration discs when you first acquired your PC? If so, pop that in and boot up...then do a startup repair.

"I don't own any disks for this computer"

They're on the hard drive. You should have burned the discs the day you bought the laptop. It could be your hard drive failed. Do you know how to enter the BIOS? Check to make sure the drive is being properly recognized. If it it's not, it's either bad or the connection came loose. If it's still being recognized, run a diagnostic test. If you know the model of the drive, the diagnostics software is available for free from the manufacturer's website. Or if you'd post the model number of your laptop, one of us might be able to hook you up with the software.
