It would have been helpful to say which browser you are using and whether your home page was changed or just the search bar.
First you should simply click on the arrow alongside the search engine logo, in this case AOL and select Google from the list of search engines. This will change your default search engine back to Google.
Under the chance that more was effected, open Tools and Add ons to see if there is anything AOL there you need to disable or remove.
Finally, if you want to be sure, you can go to Programs in Control Panel and remove anything AOL.
If your home page was changed, just go to your preferred home page, then open Tools and Internet Options and make Current Page your Home Page.
In the future, be careful when downloading or installing free programs that there is not a check box already checked off that will install something (McAfee, AOL, Google tool bar, or worse) so you can uncheck these before you proceed. Many good free programs have baggage like this so they can pay for the free part but you just need to be careful.

You have to be a little bit crazy to keep you from going insane.

Well it would help enormously if we knew which web browser you are referring to.
For Internet Explorer, just click the down arrow in the search bar at top-right and choose a different search provider or click on "Find More Providers ....."
