Hi, I have a gateway laptop. I have already registered. Every 20 minutes when I am on it there is a popup in the lower right hand corner telling me to register my product. It is a gateway pop up. If I click on the link it prompts me to enter ID and after tells me its already registered. It will not stop. Anyone know how to disable this? Thanks guys! Nikki

Click on 'start' and in either 'run' or the search box type:

Look under the startup tab and see if there's an entry that
looks like anything to do with gateway registration - it may
look slightly cryptic.

If it's there you have a couple of options. You can untick it
from MSCONFIG, but that's a bit messy so the neatest &
easiest is to download & install CCleaner - it's a useful free
utility that amongst other things has a facility for turning on &
off startup programs. You can disable or delete the particular

nikkimw - I'm so glad you asked this question. I bought this Gateway laptop a few months ago and suffered through this annoying Gateway registration pop-up as well.

Going by what johnr suggested, I was able to find where I could turn off the silly reminder. If you follow the steps to get to the system configuration using msconfig, the culprit can be disabled in the 'services' tab. Uncheck the 'GRegService' (under manufacturer - Acer Incorporated). Apply the setting, then voila. It should be gone. Worked for me.

msconfig is an extremely useful little app that everyone should get familiar with. the startup tab usually contains several items that can be disabled to not only save startup time but also user sanity.

i have a question as well, does win7 have some new setting in the system tray (bottom right hand corner icons) that now allows users to suppress pop-ups, i know they implemented this for security alerts in the system tray, as an improvement on vista, but i'm wondering if the new setting allows users to prevent all system tray pop-ups, anyone know this answer?
