Solved AMD 5700, FM2 motherboard, HP computer

Specs: Windows Vista
Can I upgrade this chip to the newer 6800 chip and keep everthing else as it is? It would be great to be able to just remove the 5700 and replace it with the 6800.

You should be able to upgrade just fine. I would suggest having a professional do it for you though. Also, make sure your PSU is good enough to support the new card. The fact that your motherboard is FM2 shouldn't matter, as graphics cards connect through PCI ports, not the CPU socket.

What would be the point? The 6800 uses considerably more power but the performance difference is minimal.

Thank-you for the link! I did not realize the performance increase was so minimal, and I do not plan on overclocking. Regards, Dutchflyer
