I HAVE ONE ASUS DESKTOP PC HAVING WINDOWS 7 OS AND A TATA PHOTON DATA CARD AND A COMPAQ LAPTOP HAVING WIN XP OS .I WANT TO CONNECT THESE 2 PCs AND SHARE THE INTERNET SERVICE OF FOOTON AND SHARE FILES OF BOTH COMPUTER BY ETHERNET CANBLE , I HAVE CONNECTED THE 2 PCs AND ENTERED THE IP4 - 192.168.137.1,SUB MASK-255.255.255.0 AND OTHER HAVE 192.168.137.2, SUB MASK- 255.255.255.0, BUT IN THE DESKTOP PC's NETWORK PLACE SHOWS 2 PC's NAME (ASUS PC AND COMPAQ PC)BUT THE COMPAQ PC IS NOT OPENING BY DOUBLE CLICK.IN COMPAQ PC's NETWORK PLACE NO PC SHOWS....SOLVE MY PROBLEM PLEASE.. STEP BY STEP FROM BEGNING

Please do not type in all capital letters! It is considered to be very impolite as it is the equivalent of shouting at someone. It also makes it more difficult for people to read, so they just won't reply to it.

Alternatively, the method most people use is to connect both computers to a "Router" because most people already have a router anyway so that several people in the family can all share the same internet connection.

That router also allows you to set up a home network to share files and folders and printers. It's just so much easier to set up with a router. See this:
