ALL Programs opening w/ Word Pad/DOS mode?

December 7, 2011 at 15:52:32
Specs: Windows 7, AMD Athlon 2850 e processor
[Running Windows 7]
All of my programs are opening with Word Pad and says "This program can't be ran
with DOS mode!" I've tried to download Malware bytes to an external hard drive, but I can't even open the program! ='( I opens word pad but says,"This program must be run under Win32". When I right click on the malware program I tried to open it with a differnt program like Internet Explorer, just to try anything to get a program to open. It's not working. I don't know what else to do.
The only way I can access Firefox program, I right click norton security and run a scan when it pops up "no viruses found", I can then click a blue link that takes me to the norton website. I can also pull up Internet Exploer, by going through the start menu, Word Pad (of course), my documents etc. I have to go altenate routes to do so, but I can't run regular programs. I can't even access to delete cookies. I'm really freaked out by this and not sure what to do. I have recovery point discs, however, they're in my storage unit across town (i.e. lost in a deep black hole for the next 2 weeks, 'til I bury myself deep in it to recover Anyway, I tried calling a Computer Tech line, but the guy I was-trying- to talk to...well..we just couldn't understand each other. So, please ANY help and ANY information anyone has, I would be enternally grateful. I'm trying to keep from loosing everything ( mainly pictures of my daughter from birth - to now) on my computer.
Thank You!

Safest way to recover your files, is to slave it to another computer, run all the host comp's virus/spy tools & also ESET.

Using ESET's Online Scanner
General clean up and Prep (Do prior to any AV scans)
How can I view the log file from ESET Online Scanner?
The ESET Online Scanner saves a log file after running, which can be examined or sent in to ESET for further analysis. The path to the log file is "C:\Program Files\EsetOnlineScanner\log.txt". You can view this file by navigating to the directory and double-clicking on it in Windows Explorer, or by copying and pasting the path specification above (including the quotation marks) into the Start ? Run dialog box from the Start Menu on the desktop.

Slave your HD to another HD/comp ( no need to bolt it in, just cable it & leave it outside the case ) You may have a choice of jumper settings on the master HD, such as master with slave or ms. Copy your stuff ( don't forget your emails & address book ) onto the host HD or other media.
