Solved All my deskstop icons and my task bar have .lnk

Specs: Windows 7
I wanted to open a document with my computer, i clicked on the document, a dialogue box came up asking if i will choose web or Microsoft to open the document and i chose Microsoft all of a sudden all the icons on my desktop and my task bar changed to W carrying .LNK and whenever i click on any icon, it will not open, please help me i don't know what to do.

As an extra precaution you may wish to run malwarebytes after the fix.

Yes, follow both suggestions in the order given. Often (but not always) this LNK problem is caused by a virus. If the associations get fixed first it is easier to tackle any virus that might be present.
