All links open in separate window

Specs: Windows 7 Home Premium, Intel Quad 4,2.8GHz,4gigs
Windows 7 Home Premium. For the last 5 or 6 months, every time I click on a link it will open in a new window. It's really annoying when you have to drill down in a documents folder to find something.
I have tried a lot of websites to find a fix, but all to no avail.
Can you help?
sincerely, Massezac

It's in the browser settings. You didn't say which browser you're using.

I don't use Chrome and I don't think riider does either. That said, look for options> tabs> tick or un-tick the appropriate box to NOT open in a separate window.

Please be advised that none of the answers helped at all.
Unfortunately I will have to do a clean install. I see no other way out.
Thank you all for trying to help.

A clean install will not change those settings. I assume you mean a clean install of Chrome, not Windows?

You mentioned links in your first post so we thought you were having issues with your browser. Rereading, leads me to think you are talking about Windows.

Please clarify.

Try uninstalling it and using chrome as Guest, do not sign in into chrome yet. Check if the issue persists, if it doesn't then login and try again. If it persists then go to settings and see if you had set it as open in new window or not.
