Specs: Windows 7
my acer aspire 5535 laptop has suddenly stopped working. i went to turn it on and, instead of loading up normally, it starts loading up, gets to the windows flag appearing on the screen then suddenly turns itself off for no reason. no matter how many times i try it keeps doing the same thing. can anyone help? or have i got to take it back and get it replaced?

have you tried booting at safe mode? It may also be BSOD (Blue Screen of Death) but your laptop automatically restarts after it. Try also windows startup repair. (using your Windows 7 Installation Disk)...

go here http://neosmart.net/blog/2009/windo... download the repair disk, and put it in your machine, reboot, it should offer you the choice to repair your system, if that fails, do a system restore from the same disk, if that fails you can do a factory rest, this will delete all your files but reset your machine to the day you bought it.
if all these fail take it back.

hi
the problem i have is that it did it for a while a few months back then was fine. it started doing it again the minute i put in into safe mode when i was trying to get rid of the antivirus IS virus i think i got yesterday. so i if i try and put it into safe mode my laptop starts in safe mode but turns itself off after a little while of being in safe mode so i cant stay in safe mode. but i have still got that suspected antivirus IS on my system. at the moment i am lucky enough that my laptop eventually decided to start and load up properly but i darent turn it off again to try and see if it works so i am keeping it in standby mode when im not using it.
how would you go about doing a factory reset?

while its working, save all your files to a usb or external disk,
to do a factory reset you keep tapping the F9 or F10 or alt+f10 key through the boot up and a new app will appear, it will offer you the choices to repair, restore or reset your system, depending on which laptop and which model, if its not the F9 it will be one of the other F# keys. you can check on the acer site, for your model or in the manual that came with your machine.

would doing a factory reset completely wipe the antivirus IS virus from my laptop or would it still be on there?

it will totally wipe the c;\ drive and you will have a system exactly the same as the day you bought the machine.
when you have done that, i recommend removing the installed virus program that came with your acer, and install microsoft security essentials, its free, small and you dont have to do anything..its all automatic.

did you ever think that maybe your battery has gone bad or the AC adapter?
Try removing the battery and just running the AC adapter and see if it works properly.
Also check online as to whether there are battery or AC adapter recalls for your laptop, they are sometimes bad.
