Acer Aspire One Netbook - Internet Lag After 'Waking'

December 9, 2011 at 06:03:08
Specs: Win 7, not sure, sorry
Good Morning,

I have an Acer Aspire One netbook with Windows 7 Starter.
I've had it for about 10 months, but in the last 3 to 4 months, I've had a persistent problem.
If I close the 'lid' it goes into sleep mode.
If I open the lid, it wakes up from sleep mode.
No problem.
Everything works fine the moment it wakes up.

When I try to use the wireless, it does nothing for about three minutes.
Regardless of browser.

I open it up.
Type in a web address.
Hit <ENTER>.
And nothing happens.

No hourglass.
No churning.
My wireless icon in the system tray doesn't flicker or change - it shows as connected.
It just sits there, doing nothing, for about two to three minutes.
Then finally it starts.
And after that it's fine.
And stays fine until the next time I close the lid and re-open it.

I've tried changing power saving settings, but no change.
The only behind-the-scenes program I have running is Avast Anti-Virus, but it's configuration has not changed since I first installed it 10 months ago.
I've run SpyBot, AdAware, registry cleaners, defragmenters, the lot.
I've uninstalled frivilous programs.

But nothing seems to change this problem.

does anyone have ANY idea what's going on?

Temporarily set Avast to not do automatic updates, or see if you can set it only to do them once a day. If I am right, you are getting Avast checking for updates every time it wakes from sleep and if it is, then that is your delay.

You have to be a little bit crazy to keep you from going insane.
