acer aspire 4520 laptop Disk Drive problem

Windows / Acer aspire 4520

Specs: Windows 7
I'm Sean from America. My cousin's Acer
Aspire 4520, on which he installed windows 7,
will not see the disk drive for any reason what-
so-ever.

He asked me what the problem was and I
figured his driver was corrupt, but I took a look
and it was just fine. If you have any idea what
it could be, let me know.

Doing a generic google search of the laptop has not revealed any common problems with windows 7, are you installing 32 or 64 bit? And did you perform an upgrade or a clean install?

Also

Does the drive appear in device manager, does the computer display the disk drive in my computer/computer management and does the computer display any signs of activity/changes when a disk is inserted

This should help give us a better idea of what might be going on!

If it is installed then I'd guess it has to be seen by the OS????

@thomasad: he installed 32 bit and there were no upgrades to
preform. And, no, the disk drive does not show ANY indication of
being detected.

@jefro: it is installed but is not being seen by the OS

@XpUser4Real: He bought the windows 7 instillation disk from
best-buy
