About DVD Drive functioning

Specs: Windows 7
I cant open the DVD drive of thoshiba laptop model
satellite M840-I4012. Also the CD currently put on the drive is not working too..What happened to my DVD drive?

If the drive doesn't open then it may have failed.

Does the drive show in Windows Disk Management? If not, try removing the drive listing in Windows Device Manager and rebooting. Windows should find and re-install the drive.

Post back with a progress report.

By not opening do you mean software wise or that its drawer is not opening?

Sometimes when the drive does not open via pressing the external button, it still works if you go to Computer, right click on the drive and select "Eject" from the menu.
Simple but often overlooked and if you have not tried it yet, I suggest that you do.
If not then it is the above suggestions or replacing the drive. If you need to replace the drive and need to recover the disk in the drive, there is usually a manual release that can be accessed with a straightened paperclip in the tiny hole usually left for this purpose.

You have to be a little bit crazy to keep you from going insane.
