A dead Dell Dimension E521 computer

Specs: Windows 64, 6 GB
Recently my wife's Dell Dimension E521 computer recently froze when opening a program.

She rebooted and managed to get past the user login. It froze again.

Then she tried again, but could not get the machine to boot . . . no messages or anything . . . the power light remained a steady amber..

The screen is working ok as the Dell logo comes up on screen switch-on.

I tried to get at the bios settings, but F12 does not do anything, nor does any other 'F' or control 'F'.

I followed the manual and swapped jumper pins over then back again in the hope of resetting the bios back to factory settings.

I have tried removing everything removable and reseating them again.
I even changed the bios battery, although I did not really expect this to make any difference as no battery messages had showed up.

At the worst, I was thinking maybe the motherboard could have passed-on, so I looked online for 'kits', but of course I have no way of knowing if the advertised kits I found would fit in my Dell case/box.

I did not find any on Dell's site . . . my machine is over four years old.

Any suggestions?
