Use SIW, click on > Hardware > Memory to see what type & how much each slot can use.
Or,
Read the users manual.

Likely they have to be matched (capacity wise). Difficult to speculate further without some more information on your machine.

Also could be bad ram. Some ram need to work in pairs or more, They switch modes. Could be motherboard too.

As above, you need to know or post what the board is and can hold and how many slots are available.

Where do you see this report? Bios?

Typically the problems come from differing types of memory, speed, timings, voltage, and latency, all can effect whether the memory can run together. If the settings are close enough, they will sometimes run at the slower settings, and sometimes switching them around (opposite sockets) will help. Other times, if you know enough about memory timings (if you did, you would have purchased a better match) and such things, you can manually find memory settings for your BIOS that will allow both to work together (though probably not at their optimal speeds).
Aside from all of that, I would recommend purchasing another EXACT same memory stick to the newer 2GB stick you have and run two matching sticks for the best possible memory performance. Even if you are running only Windows 32bit operating system, Windows will recognize somewhere around 3.2-3.5 GB of memory and still run better to a major degree.

You have to be a little bit crazy to keep you from going insane.

When I install both RAM then PC is not working. I bought 2 512 RAM also frequency is same with my old RAM. when I install new 2 512 RAM together then my PC is working fine. Now When I insyall 2 512 RAM any combination of new RAM ( 1 is old & 1 is new) then also my PC is working fine. But If I install 2 old 512 RAM then only PC is not working before it was working fine. Can any one know whats the problem with my PC or old RAM ?
