Do you have any Princess Auto stores near you? I was in one the other day and they had a sound surround unit that apparently enhances any speaker system...it was less than $40 which included a small preamp and a remote....not sure how good it is, but may be worth a shot?

The speaker output jack on your laptop's front panel can only output stereo sound (two speakers plus optional bass or centre speaker).

It cannot output full surround-sound to a home-theater system, that's why the rear speakers don't work. Your laptop is not compatible with the home-theater system that you bought.

It depends upon how the home theater accepts the surround sound. Read the manual first.
