Solved 32bit games don't work on W7 64bit home

October 21, 2011 at 18:43:33
Specs: Windows 7 Home Premieum, i7@3.33ghz CPU/ 6gig RAM
Hi I have like a half dozen older games on CD which,
I did install on my W7-64-H.P. ( Windows 7 64bit Home Premieum ) rig.
But none of them will work even as admin, gone through all compatability modes etc.

The Questions I have are:

1. All my games installed to the 'Program Files' folder, which I know is for the 64bit programs, Is this ok?

2. Could Direct X be a cause? ( because 3D does not work at all ) but for some reason it works just fine for
games I play online. My gfx cards are, ATI Radeon 5670 HD 1gig mem card.

you have 2 programs folders one for pure x64 and the other older 32bit stuff, program files (x86) your older stuff should be installed in the (x86) program folder.

i hate computers!
but cant help myself....

If only we knew what programs you are using or what faults you see.

1/3 of highway deaths are caused by drunks. The rest are by people who can't drive any better than a drunk.

For Win7 Ultimate n Some Others XP Mode is Available If You Install That Its Great, But this is Not Available for Home Prem hence had to do the following.

You May Have To Use Some UI/Software Like VirtualBox or VM Ware and install the other os in there and u can play in there.

Thanks for the replays

The programs I tried to install are all older games I bought in a store.

I did not find any of the games I installed on the lists from the links JohnW gave.

Those games are all the Myst games; RealMyst, Riven, Exile, Relalation, End of Ages.
& Complete Chronicals games.

I have found out some things about Windows 7 that I found instristing(spelling)

1. 64bit programs get installed to the ( old 32bit ) Program Files folder, AND
the installed 64bit program's system files goes to the System32 Folder! WHILE
all the 32 bit programs go to the new Program Files (x86) AND the installed 32bit program's
system files goes to the SysWOW64 folder! They Criss Cross! hua,... Go Figure ?

2. Any 32bit program or Game that makes use of a 32bit Device Driver Will never work
on a 64bit OS.

IMO: hummm not so sure on this what about running it in a VM? But then the 32bit
device driver would have to be emmulated , maybe thats all thats needed a 32bit device driver emmulator for Windows 7 Home Premieum.!
