Some explanation on NX and relevant CPU features required by Win 10:
https://www.zdnet.com/article/windo...
https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/pr...

If your CPU supports NX, check if it is not turned off in BIOS:

"All modern processors support NX. NX can be turned off in the BIOS. Based on available telemetry data, it appears that one percent of the systems that are running Windows® 7 have NX turned off because of a misconfiguration in the BIOS setting."

Your P4 needs to be a Prescott or newer to have NX/XD support. You probably have a Northwood. CPUZ will tell you what you have.

Your Pentium 4 will not run well on Windows 10.
You will not find proper drivers for your hardware and are going to have to settle for whatever generic drivers Microsoft has in Windows 10. Some hardware and features will not work properly.
I do not recommend it, stay with Windows 7 if it runs well enough for you or go to Linux instead. XP was really the last Windows designed to run on your hardware.

You have to be a little bit crazy to keep you from going insane.

My spare comp has a 64-bit processor, because it has only has 2GB of ram, I installed 32-bit W10.
It works fine & the only driver it didn't find, was for an old printer.

Here are some of it's specs.

Operating system: Microsoft Windows 10 Pro (version 10.0.17763; build 17763)
Processor: Intel(R) Pentium(R) 4 CPU 3.00GHz (architecture: x64; 3007 MHz)
Architecture: x64
Level 2 cache size: 2048 KB
Socket type: Socket 478
Version: Model 4, Stepping 3
Physical memory: 2.0 GB

Are you sure it's not socket 775? Being that your CPU is x64 has 2MB L2 cache, it would have to be a Prescott 2M, most likely a P4 630.

"Model 4, Stepping 3"

Model 4 = Prescott 2M. Scroll down about 1/2-way of this page:

Thanks for your help.
My CPU is
3.20 gigahertz Intel Pentium 4
16 kilobyte primary memory cache
1024 kilobyte secondary memory cache
Not hyper-threaded
The W7 is working at the moment but I am concerned about how long it will continue with the support going away. Based on the info above, I am trying to find out if I can upgrade or keep a daily back-up for when it goes down.

Thanks Ugly

are you trying to install 64 bit or 32bit windows 10?

sluc seems to be very close, or even dead on.

"My CPU is...."

You should really run CPUZ to properly identify your CPU, but if you're sure about the info you provided, it appears you have a 32-bit Prescott.

You cannot install a 64bit without an entire new system. The d530 is simply a legacy-free mini system that HP/Compaq made for businesses many years ago (during the early WinXP era).

If your requirements are not high you can purchase a new one for fairly cheap these days. If you have stronger need then you will have to pay more but even a cheaper one will be more than what you have there. Some stores sell 'open boxes' which still have a decent warranty and are still new though purchased and returned. You may be able to have the store show you that all important parts are there and working before paying.

You have to be a little bit crazy to keep you from going insane.

Thank you so much for all your help. It would seem that the best way would be to give this computer to my second grader and get a w10 machine for what I need to do. Thanks again.

Not wanting to deny a child a computer, but that wouldn't be a bad system to experiment with some distros of Linux...though driver support might be a little bit of an issue...
