win 3.11 installation problem

September 3, 2010 at 03:16:40
Specs: Windows 7

i tried to install win 3.11 on my very old 486 pc.Because i have onlt FDD;

1-) i installed dos 6.22 without any problem (original,3 diskettes)
2-) i installed win 3.11 without any problem (original,4 diskettes)

but after the 4th diskeette of win 3.11 setup finished its task it gives a message;

please let the diskette as inserted.after confirming this message the pc restarts by itself and swap some files.

i followed this message but after restart i can only see ms-dos starting and hanged.So i could not see the win 3.11 screen.

Note1 : i tried the pc with dos 6.22 boot disk and entered win\ directory and tried to start calc.exe and i have faced the problem "it requires microsoft windows software"

Note 2 : i tried the 2 steps as explained above with different sets of diskettes(dos 6.22+win 3.11) but the result is same.

Thanks in advance

First, Win3.1 was generally 5 (1.44MB) disks, not 4. Second, make sure you have enough room on your hard drive for an installation (Win3.1 only took about 10-15MB, so that shouldn't be an issue). If you have lots of space, see if you can't copy all the files from the floppies to a folder (subdirectory) on the hard drive (such as "TEMPWIN") and do the installation from there---this may also show what file could be corrupt by hanging on it when copying. Here's a page that may offer additional help (look under "Setup options") :
