Win 3.1 Cannot Find Networking Files on Setup Disk 7

Specs: Win10 Win 3.1, Q9650
I've got Win3.1 up and running on VMware. I've got some good instructions on how to add networking. After I've added the AMD adapter and TP/IP protocol, Windows asks me to insert Disk 7 to finish the install. When I insert the virtual floppy containing Disk 7, the setup routine looks for ndis.386 and it cannot be found. Upon examining the contents of Disk 7 in WinImage, I see that there is a file called ndis.38_ , but that' it. So technically, there is no ndis.386. As of matter of fact, all the files on all of the disks use an underscore for the third symbol of the file extension. However, this didn't present a problem when I installed the operating system from the same set up floppies. Why only when I'm adding networking? And what's a person to do? Many thanks.
