Problem Installing excel 3.0

Specs: Windows 3.1, Intel g5 2ghz / 4gigs
I know this is an odd question but does anyone know how to properly install excel 3.0 in windows 3.1x? I got a copy from vetusware, but whenever I run setup.exe, it just keeps asking me to insert the correct disk or type in the new directory which I already did.

Good question and I don't know. I've never tried that particular install but have always installed some Office 4.x suite.

You running a virtual install or have DOS/Win3.xx installed?

I have dos 6.22 and windows 3.11 installed. I do not have the actual floppies so I extracted all its contents from the img file and click setup.exe

OK. I've done a similar install with office 4.something but I had two Win3.xx machines running side by side. Searching around found enough office file entries I was able to duplicate on the target rig to get everything to work. It's been years and I don't recall much other than digging for .ini files and the like.

Some old installations require the use of floppy disks (i.e. - the default installation files must be found on floppies). If the image you have is made into separate disks (or are broken up into 360K, 720K, 1.2MB or 1.44MB sections), then you may have to copy them to floppy to get it to install. I've worked fairly heavily with Excel 4.x (from Office 3.0), but only briefly worked with Excel 3.0/Word 1.1 (that I had working on an IBM PC/XT running Win3.0 long ago).

Then you have a file missing (assume you made your own disc) that Windows is looking for. Why not just buy a copy of Excel or Office for the version you want?

I compared my b---tard install to a proper install to get the stepchild working...you will likely need to do the same.

Recommend you do it the easy way.

I am going to close this topic. I have solved it by simply using winimage to transfer the working .img files to actual 1.2mb 5.25 inch floppy diskettes. Thanks for the help
