Create wallpaper desktop image for windows 3.1

Specs: Macintosh
Hi there

I'm looking to create a wallpaper image for a windows 3.1 computer from an existing jpg from google. I've lowered the resolution of the jpeg to 500x500 and also 300x300, and have used both .jpg and .bmp as the file format. However, once I import the image via floppy drive onto the computer, it cannot open it.

I'm completely illiterate when it comes to these computers so if you could describe any solutions in layman's terms that would be great. Any help would be much appreciated

Thanks

I believe Windows 3.1 wallpaper must be an 8 bit 640 x480 bmp. Support for jpg wallpaper didn't come until later.

Thanks. It's working now. I also wanted to ask - the whole screen is shifted to the left where the black bar on the right is wider than on the left. Do you know how I can fix this to centre the whole display?

"...the whole screen is shifted to the left where the black bar on the right is wider than on the left"

Is there a horizontal-adjustment on the monitor? What monitor are you using?

Should've checked this before - yes there are adjustment sliders - thanks for the pointing me in the right direction T-R-A. It's a Compaq 425 presario all-in-one that I picked up from eBay recently.
