hi i have recently installed windows server 2012 server and i have an issue i cannot map drive on users and i have had the same problem in windows server 2008, untill unless i dont give users administrator rights i cannot see the map drive in the current logged user, is there any other way to do this thing because i dont want to give administrator rights to a standard user and also want to map a drive for every user in my network please do let me know. your highly response back will be highly appreciated.. You need to give the users permission to access both the folder and the drive. You do this in the Security tab of the Properties dialog.
they must have or be part of a group that has at least read permissions. remember deny always overrides allow
Before I make some suggestions, I would like to know whether your machines are either on domain or workgroup. If on workgroup:
-Let all PCs maintain the same workgroup name.
-Make sure all network PCs maintain a unique account with Admin right(for support and authentications) and individual PC's user account with standard user right.
-Map drive with either IP address or PC name(for security reason make sure you hide drive with $ sign).If on domain:
-Map drive accordingly and if there is any issue add users account in user account option of control panel or do a group policy for local admins on network PC.I hope this help.
