Specs: 2008 R2, 4ghz/3gb
I have setup an SSL FTP server again. For some
reason now if a user wants to log on they have to
pipe ftp01.stolt.com|tsmith. Before all the user
had to do was supply the username and
password, this is auth SSL. If the hostname isn't piped first they get an error.

530 valid hostname is expected

At last...I found the answer to my issues (no comments from the peanut gallery pls) - Thanks Carl

This is what my command prompt looked like...

H:\>ftp ftp.mydomain.com
Connected to ftp.mydomain.com.
220 Microsoft FTP Service
User (ftp.mydomain.com:(none)): MyName
331 Valid hostname is expected.
503 Login with USER first.
Login failed.

...And I was FTPing to a windows 2008 box running IIS 7.

Turns out that with a host name, it doesn't work...which suggests you can only have one FTP site per IP (unless you use virtual directories i suppose). I removed my hostname and we are go...

Such a simple configuration parameter would have been so easy to include in the pages of documentation generated on FTP sites...!

When you use Hostname bindings for FTP service , you have to specify the hostname at login.

so for your question .. it'll look like this
