Solved How to link to a .rdp file from a webpage

Specs: Windows 64, 2.812 GHz / 2047 MB
Anyone know if it is possible to link directly to a RDWeb .rdp file from a webpage?

I just get 404: File not found, it clearly is there. Is IIS refusing to server the file because it doesn't recognize the MIME type of .rdp?

Also trying to do the same with the .cer Certificate file but that has the same problem.

Any ideas.

Not sure I understand the difference. On 2008 R2 I have setup:

Remote Desktop Services, Web Server (IIS), Remote Desktop Session Host, Remote Desktop Web Access.

The application is then accessible from the //domain/RDWeb page. It can also be called from a .RDP file. What I don't seem to be able to do is link to it directly from my own webpage. I don't really want the clients going through the default /RDWeb page.

✔ Best Answer
Use the instructions from the technet link below to add application/rdp as the mime type for rdp and application/x-x509-ca-cert for .cer. In my experience, you'll also need to turn off ISAPI filtering to allow .cer's to be downloaded.

Thanks Andrew, that works perfectly. Didn't need to touch the ISAPI filtering.
