GPO won't completely apply to some PCs

Specs: N/A
I have a win2008r2 test domain, created GPO with multiple computer and user configurations, the GPO applies completely on win7 and winXP machines already in the domain. However, computers that i have moved from another domain into this test domain only apply part of the GPO. The computers that do not apply the GPO completely occassionally have an event ID1054 error "Windows cannot obtain the domain controller name for your computer network (A socket operation was attempted to an unreachable host) Group policy processing aborted" I have made sure the computer is in the correct OU, i am able to browse from these computers to \\domain.com\sysvol\domain.com (where domain.com is my domain) and they apply part of the GPO. I have googled and tried fix recommendations regarding the event ID1054 error, and the error is not appearing every time i reboot or run gpupdate /force....I'm at a loss as it seems to only be an issue on the machines new to this domain that were previously on another domain......any help appreciated.

"be an issue on the machines new to this domain that were previously on another domain"

So did you disjoin them from the old domain and rejoin them to this domain?

This could be a DNS issue. When you get the error ping one of your domain controllers by their FQDN and see if it resolves the right IP for that server. Also, double check your NSLOOKUP to see if the DNS server is correct. Also, send the IPCONFIG /ALL of the failing computer and what the DNS IP should be.
