WM Server to use proxy server

September 22, 2011 at 04:43:37
Specs: Windows Server 2003 Enterprise

I'm just adding a new publishing point under my WM Server 9. The soure of the stream points to a URL that can only be accessed by the WMS9 through a proxy.

However I am getitng the folloing error when trying to start the publishing point: "Unable to establish a connection to the server 0xc00d0006"

Quick wireshark capture shows that WMS9 is trying to reach the URL directly, not talking to the proxy server hence the failure.

Proxy server settings are set in IE, set under proxycfg but WMS is not using those. How can I force WMS to use a proxy server to reach a particular source?

I've just spent hours looking for the answer online and coud not get an answer, I am stuck :-) Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I'm not sure if that's what you want.

thanks for that. I actually managed to get the answer form a Microsoft engineer this morning.

Here it is:

WMS does not use the browser proxy settings. Instead, in the WMS admin, go to Windows Media Services\<servername>\Properties tab\Show All Plugin Categories\Data Source\WMS Network Data Source\Properties\HTTP\Configure... This will allow you to set the proxy for WMS on a per protocol basis.
