Specs: Windows Server 2003, 2 x Intel Xeon / 6Gb RAM
Hey guys,

I currently have a network with windows server 2003. The windows server is the domain controller, and also a DNS so that the domain could be translated. We currently have about 7 PC's on the network, logging in via active directory.

We need internet on all those PC's, we currently have a modem, but i am unable to get the pc's access to the web. Could it be DNS related, i dont know where to start by forwarding. Is there a way to redirect all http traffic to the router instead of the win2k3 server trying to translate it?

Kind regards

Leigh

You simply have to change the default gateway ip address to the routers ip address.
If you're running dhcp server at the windows server, you have to change defautl gateway in the dhcp configuration on the server.
After that, all client PCs should get the new defautl gateway address after reboot.

There are two aspects to your condition.

1. providing the correct gateway entry to all pc/clients
2. properly configure dns forwarders so internet name requests can be resolved properly.

paulsep told you how to do #1

How to do #2 is your go into the dns server. Expand your domain name. In the left pane you will see "forwarders". You simple add records here by entering the ISP dns server ips.

Workstations continue to point to the MS for dns and not the internet. Everything will then work per MS design.

you never point the server or workstation to the gateway or isp dns servers for dns or you destroy your local name resolution.
Answers are only as good as the information you provide.
