Win 2003 has become extremely slow

April 26, 2011 at 20:21:27
Specs: Windows 2003 Ent. SP2

I have a dedicated Windows 2003 machine to host dozen of websites using Wampserver 2 (Apache/PHP/MySQL). It was running fine until recently it has become so slow when you remote to. Opening any folder takes everywhere from 5 to 15 seconds each. Sometimes even longer. However if you browse its directories using FTP connection or through mapping shared folders/drives, speed is normal.

I have tried several tweaks that I have found on the Internet such as disable unnecessary services, set paging file size,... to no avail. I already scanned for spyware/virus but both Windows Defender and Kasperky showed nothing detected. This problem persists even after the server reboots and no Apache/MySQL/PHP or FTP is running at all.

RAM shouldn't be an issue with 8GB RAM and it never consumes even half of it.

Any idea of what might cause this problem?

Any suggestion would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you.
