Unable to use NSLOOKUP command effectively

Specs: Windows 7
Hi Guys,

I was trying to use nslookup command to convert a domain name to ip address but to no avail. I got the error message "Can't find server name for address 192.168.xxx.xxx. Non-existent domain". How do i resolve this issue?

Was that ip the gateway?
what ip are you pointed to for dns?

Doesn't appear that book is working for you [referring to your first post here]

Server should be the dns server and dhcp server. You have the router doing that.
Server should have a static ip. It doesn't.

If using the router for dhcp it should be configured to give the servers static ip as dns.

In turn servers DNS server needs to be properly setup and configure the forwarding to include the ISP dns server ips.

You still have invalid search/domain entries which have not been corrected.

If that nslookup you did was concerning the local domain name the router nor the ISP's dns have any knowledge of your server or pcs so it can't resolve the request.

This is the reason why you need a local dns server that has these records.

You have the router set as the Wins source which it can not do.

You really should start fresh on chapter one and begin again with this setup. You need to get a handle on the basic mechanics like how DNS and AD work if you are going to progress.
