spoolsv.exe memory leak or memory increase

February 18, 2011 at 02:59:31
Specs: Windows 2003

I have problem with our server, which has been going on for 8 months now.

The Spoolsv.exe memory increases very quickly within 48hrs to 150,000kb, and keeps on increasing. This in return affects users, where users cannot log in to systems due to not enough memory i.e. user profile cannot be loaded. We have checked all printer drivers; we have removed all printer drivers and re-added them again, applied latest updates and Citrix patches. It still has not solved the problem. Users log into our system from 2 remote sites via Citrix and from main sites. There is a temporary fix where I stop the Print Spooler (SPOOLSV.EXE) and Citrix Print Manager (CPSVC.EXE) and then restart them again; but than the memory increases again within 48hrs. Also sometimes our remote site can’t see their local printer via cirtix connection. So I have to restart the SPOOLSV.EXE and CPSVC.EXE again. This is inefficient way of doing it.

Server details:
Windows server 2003 R2 Standard Edition Service pack 2

Connection Used:
Citrix metaframe presentation server 4.0

I hope someone has a solution and can help me. I would appreciate your help.

Thank you

This sounds more like a printer driver issue than a Citrix one. I would start by taking out all of your drivers then install them one by one until you find the driver that is causing the issue. For me I have seen this happen with Toshiba Copier drivers and on systems not running on Citrix.

Thanks for your advice. I have removed all the printer drivers and re-installed them again, still same problem. Not sure what else I can do.

Did you identify which Printer Driver was causing the problem when you reinstalled them?
