Script to install printer sometimes not working

Hi

We have upgraded from 2003 to Windows 2008 DC server but still have our 2003 printer server and the windows 7 client login and I have a logon script to install their printer driver according to their machine name. I have a GPO that gets pushed out to our machines called point and print since the drivers won't install because of Windows 7 client.

But for some reason I sometimes get script errors on some client that the printer is not there, I have ping the 2003 print server and it's connected to the network. I have not disable the GPO since I think this is still needed because our print server is still 2003 but our DC are now 2008 but I don't want to start doing things just incase I am making things worse. Before the upgrade this was mainly happening on wireless and not on the LAN but now it seems it's doing it in the LAN network. When the error script pops up and I run it manually it works and the printer gets installed.

Is it because my print server can't handle all the user's request or I need to set it up for more user licence or the print server LAN card on standby or network connection is idle and by default it get disconnect just like it does on network drives or just down to network cabling causing connection problem or the copier is on standby or sleep mode and it can't connect to it. ?

We did change all our switches to 1G and the machines have 1G LAN card but the cables are still old and using CAT 5 and probably running at 1G connection since it's set to autoneg.

It just seems the printing script to install print drivers is causing a lot of problems with wireless before and now its doing it on the LAN. Sometime when I run the script manually I get this error as well saying the printer is not available but not often. But I get all our network drives without any problems so probably not cabling? I don't need the printer on to install the driver right since as long as the print server is on.?

Any ideas?

Thanks

Good question! What does the performance monitoring say? You don't have performance monitoring set up? Then set it up!

or I need to set it up for more user licence
